A Memorial Day Tribute

This year 2009 we celebrated Memorial Day on May 25th.  It is our hope that everyone took time to remember our war heroes who gave their lives in defense of our country with perhaps a visit to gravesites, placing of flowers or flag, or simply saying a prayer for the souls departed and for the families who have lost their husband, father, brother, wife, mother, sister.
We must never forget that "Freedom is not free"; it was paid for by our servicemen and women who fight to keep us in the most wonderful country in the world.  We know and see of Arlington National Cemetery many times and are familiar with many of the local cemeteries dedicated to our veterans. How many of us are aware of the thousands of Americans who lay in eternal rest near the battlegrounds of Europe.
As a tribute to those brave men and women, we offer the slideshow below of a sampling of the veterans cemeteries in Europe.
Normandy, France (9387 of our military dead) and St. Mihiel, France (4153 of our military dead) are not shown in the pictures; figures are included in total count.  Click on photo to see information on cemetery shown.
Total count of American military dead among the photos is 104,366, a stark reminder of the price of liberty.
