The Medal, which is distinctly Louisiana, will be given to Louisiana veterans based on their military records.  The addition of a silver star will indicate wounded in action and the addition of a gold star will be awarded to next of kin of Armed Forces personnel killed in action.  Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs is working to have medal award presentations held in each region of the state.  According to LDVA, medals cannot be mailed to recepients.  Any questions, please contact American Legion, Department of Louisiana Headquarters at 225-923-1945 or the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs at 225-922-0500.
