Herbert J. Petit, Jr. - Special Olympics Coordinator
3409 Ole Miss Drive, Kenner, LA 70065
I would like to extend a sincere thanks to all of the American Legion Family of volunteers who came to assist at Special Olympics on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Southeastern University in Hammond. It was heartwarming to see so many volunteers for this most worthwhile program and, I might add, more than we have had in many a year. New Orleans Boy Scout Troop 185 is also to be thanked for their hard work on the field in the hot sun. The ENTIRE Softball Throw and Javelin Throw are in the hands of the American Legion Family – staging, the actual event and awards presentation. It takes a lot of manpower to get it all done and this year we had the manpower. Again, I say thank you. You all can be very proud of your efforts.
Sincere THANKS go to each and every individual, Post, Unit and Squadron who donated to the volunteers’ lunch. We were able to provide donuts and juice in the early morning, box lunches, soft drinks and water for the volunteers, as well as treats for each athlete after they finished their competition.
