Royals and American Legion Form Partnership

The Kansas City Royals and Kansas American Legion have joined forces to offer Legion Family members an opportunity to attend one or more Royals games this summer at deeply discounted prices and assist American Legion programs at the same time.  Three home games have been selected for the 2009 season in what Department Headquarters hopes will evolve into a long term partnership with the Royals at the newly renovated Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Two of the selected games will benefit the American Legion Legacy Scholarship and one will provide funds for the Department’s Wounded Warrior Assistance program.  This season’s selected games are Saturday, July 18 when the Royals welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for a 6:10pm game and Saturday, September 19 when the Royals take on the Chicago White Sox at 6:05pm.  The Royals will make a contribution to the Legacy Scholarship fund each time a Legion Family member, or Post, purchases a discounted ticket from our “ticket block” for the aforementioned two games.
On Saturday, August 8 the Royals will host a major event honoring those in the armed forces as well as police, fire, and emergency services personnel with static displays and a number of other attractions prior to a 6:10pm game with the Oakland A’s.  The Royals will make a contribution to Department’s Wounded Warrior program each time a Legion Family member and Post purchase tickets for the Oakland game from our “ticket block”.  The Wounded Warrior program benefits a similarly named Battalion at Ft. Riley and another group of injured service personnel at Ft. Leavenworth.
Our ticket blocks for each game will include the following seating options:  Field Box seats which normally sell for $33.00 per ticket will sell for $22.00; Field Plaza tickets normally sell for $26.00 will be discounted to $18.00 per ticket; $25.00 Outfield Box tickets will be sold for $15.00; and Upper level $18.00 View Level Box seats will be discounted to $13.00 per ticket.
Full details will appear in future issues of the Sunflower Legionnaire and will be sent to all Posts and SAL Squadrons, etc.  This is a great opportunity for families to take in a game as part of a summer outing, groups of friends to get together for a quick trip to Kansas City, or a Post to organize a trip for their members to take in a game or two.  Start planning now to cheer for the Royals and help benefit the American Legion Legacy Scholarship and Wounded Warriors programs.
