2nd District Takes A Lead for Recreation Building At Veterans Home

The 2nd District voted at their July 5th DEC Meeting to start off a Legion Fund Raiser for the new Recreational Building at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve by voting to donate $500 from District Funds.

2nd District Commander, Mel Gaspard, announced that he was having letters sent to all 2nd District Posts, requesting a $100 donation from each. Gaspard is also going to ask the 1st and 3rd Districts to get involved.

The Recreation Building was cut from the budget when the Home was built.  The Reserve Home is the only one in the state without a Recreation Building.  The building is estimated to cost $60,000.  Other Veterans groups are also helping to raise funds.  A motorcycle Poker Run last year raised $8,000.

All donations for the Recreation Building must be earmarked as such or it will go into the General Fund.  Anyone wanting additional information can contact Raymond Walters or Lyn Trask in the 2nd District.
