IMPORTANT NEW PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

THE AMERICAN LEGION HELPS THOSE WITH DIABETES AND ALL MEMBERS BENEFIT

The American Legion Benefits Department proudly announce a new program called Diabetes Care Plus. This could very well be our most important program introduction in years. Diabetes Care Plus is provided in collaboration with Veterans Care Plus, a Veterans healthcare advocacy group, and AOM Healthcare (formerly Access Diabetic) one of the nations leading suppliers of diabetes testing supplies and personal support.

Diabetes Care Plus is designed to help members with diabetes manage their condition easier. The program offers many FREE benefits and services. There is no cost to enroll, but for everyone who participates including family members, friends, and neighbors, the American Legion receives contributions from Veterans Care Plus. An estimated 20% of American Legion members and 15% of the US population are diabetic. The sheer numbers make
this a high stakes program for our organization from both a health and financial standpoint.
Managing diabetes means managing blood sugar – everyday! That includes the basics
such as testing blood sugar, eating right, exercising and adhering to medications.

Unfortunately, many people with diabetes wait until complications occur to get involved
in managing their health.
Diabetes Care Plus provides the following to all who participate:
• A dedicated toll-free line to make enrollment simple.
• Free home delivery of testing supplies (including most common brands) directly to the member’s home.
• Complimentary membership in Club ABC (Access to Better Care) which provides educational
materials, product samples and coupons, and free personal care items with every order.
• Control for Life™, a Web-based self-management tool that offers secure
access and a personal login for diet planning, exercise guidance, and
educational materials, to name several features.
• A Personal Care Coordinator who will be familiar with the member’s testing needs and will contact
them when it is time to reorder.
• AOM bills Medicare, TriCare, and private insurance on behalf of the member and completes all
paperwork, so there is no up-front, out of pocket expense.

A new glucose meter using the latest alternate site testing technology will be provided, FREE of charge with first orders of testing supplies.

For anyone currently receiving their testing supplies from a drug store or a mail-order provider, switching to Diabetes Care Plus allows participants to obtain the same products at the same cost or no cost plus a wealth of education and healthy life style support. In turn, the American Legion receives contributions from Veterans Care Plus.

Our goal is to achieve 100% participation (YES, 100% participation) among American Legion members who are diabetic and do not obtain their testing supplies through the VA. We also ask all American Legion members to encourage others in their family and community to participate too. In addition, for those interested in doing more by becoming a program advocate, a volunteer hotline (1-877-252-0790) has been established to call.

Anyone with diabetes can call 1-888-759-9845 to enroll or visit www.diabetescareplus.com. Only through participation are the benefits realized.
